Meet Famous Lego Master Sculptor, Nathan Sawaya!

Nathan Sawaya buys millions of LEGO pieces and assembles them into incredible sculptures, one brick at a time. At his Art of the Brick museum exhibit, Nathan chats with us about his process of sculpting with LEGO, how he earned the title of Master Model Builder, and what advice he has for anyone who wants to start using LEGO as an art medium.

5th Grade Anatomical Masterpieces

By now, my students have figured out my obsession with Leonardo da Vinci! It just so happens this lesson idea fit perfectly with the animal adaptations and habitat task they were learning about in their classrooms. We made many connections to the elements of art just in time for the End of Course exams too! From contour lines, organic shapes, and 3 dimension to anatomy, history, and science. This lesson was a huge hit and I'm so proud of the results!

4th Grade Black Hole Optical Illusion

This project was so much fun to teach and it perfectly aligned with the 4th grade ALU task!! Students explored optical illusions while also gaining knowledge about Black Holes in Space. The best part of this project was capturing their photos while they pretended to be sucked up by the gravitational pull/tunnel effect. :) Students finalized their work by adding in their own planets and gluing down their pictures.
