China Landscapes

3rd grade Stallions explored the magnificent landscapes of China. We viewed pictures of the Himalayas as well as the beautiful aerial views of rice farms. Seeing a red-necked crane is a sign of longevity and good luck. Students also learned how to write their initials using Chinese calligraphy.

                   

Aboriginal Dot Painting

3rd grade Stallions explored Australia's most notable art form, dot painting! We discussed native creatures and native people of this beautiful region. We quickly realized it takes patience and dedication to complete a dot painting! Here are a few awesome examples.....

5th Grade Japanese Notan Art

For this unit, we explored opposing forces from an Eastern perspective. The concept of Yin Yang was introduced further connecting students to the important elements of art, positive/negative space. Students cut out various organic and geometric shapes from a 5x5 black square and assembled them onto a collaged background using a mirroring effect. This technique is inspired by Japanese Notan designs.

WINTER BREAK CHALLENGE!!

Abstract Finger Prints- 2nd Grade

Our 2nd grade students created these beautiful abstract drawings by observing their finger prints! This was a great way to combine science and art while reviewing an important element of art, line. Students  identified their unique line patterns using magnifying glasses, added a few adjectives for a personalized touch, and finally added color to their designs.
