Bittersweet News

Dear Centennial families,

I’m writing to inform you of some bittersweet news. I have been given a very unique opportunity to be a part of the new Sanders Memorial STEAM magnet school and will not be returning to Centennial Elementary next school year.

            Despite my excitement for this amazing new chapter, I feel great sadness. Centennial has been like a home and I have had so many wonderful memories with students, staff, and families.

I would like to thank you for sharing your precious children with me for the past 3 years. I have enjoyed getting to know each one of them as I watched them learn and grow. I look forward to keeping in touch and following the amazing work Centennial will continue to bring to the future of our District.

5th Grade: Leonardo Da Vinci Skeleton Studies

Coffee Filter Fun

I had my students with special needs in mind for this one. I love experimenting with random household materials in the art room.   We used coffee filters, dot markers, and aerosol starch to make these sculptural masterpieces. Their giggles and smiles assured me that it was a success!

Why Integrate With the Arts?

As many teachers know, meaningful integration of the arts with other subjects is a valuable key to student engagement and success. Teaching the arts in conjunction with other subjects helps create flexible thinkers, and encourages students to synthesize new relationships between ideas. It also reinforces the arts as core subjects in their own right.

Arts integration enables students to:

• Discover natural connections among subject areas.

• Deepen understanding of important concepts that transcend individual disciplines.

• Engage in the artistic processes of creating, performing, and responding.

• Think and work using aural, visual, and kinetic modalities.
  

• Combine knowledge and methods from different disciplines.

• Apply what they learn in one area to challenges encountered in another.

This lesson integrates Math, Science, and Art. Students also utilized writing skills and it fit perfectly with our art through history" focus this year.  Centennial is ready to beautify our district STEM Fair! Go CYCLONES!

1st Grade Renaissance

Students are learning all about the Renaissance for our art through history unit. As a bonus, students who completed work early were able to practice painting upside down just like the famous artist, Michelangelo! It took him almost seven years, could you imagine?!

Art Club 2014-2015

Here is a glimpse of the great memories we made during Art Club this school year! From T-Shirts to melted cups to even cup weaving! A 100-color challenge,and our biggest project of all, the Dade City Community Mural! Stay tuned for the big mural reveal in our media center on May 20th at 5:00pm!
